Ring Around The Rosies...

so, I saw these little beauties on Pinterest by way of 100 Layer Cake
{word to the wise...do not click on that link! danger will robinson!
you will be lost for hours if you do! stop! turn back! ;}

since i have a few old novel pages around, i thought i'd give it
a whirl...{i couldn't bring myself to use the Pride & Prejudice
pages on an experiment of "iffy" potential...so i only used
Northanger Abbey...not sure what my BFF Jane was thinking
with that one! ;}

i generally deal in "ishes"...so, although 100 layer cake gave fairly
thorough directions...i still had to do it my own lazy way...i eyeballed
a few "sizes" and made hash marks to use as my guide on the back
of a magazine...actually the magazine was on the floor, so i didn't
have to get up...that's why i used it! ;}

lots and lots of cutting for this one, girls! i had no idea what i was
getting into...or i would have just gone right back to bed!

many "petals" later, i had this. yes, that's right, i had a pile o' petals!
what had i gotten myself into!

and this is what the floor looked like. cutting into a bag or trash can
would have been an awesome idea...but again...i would have had to
get off the couch...i only have soooooooo much energy to expend in
in a day...unnecessary hunting and gathering is not allotted for!

next you start with the smallest petals...hotgluing them to the
wire "stem"...round and round you go! i found that of the
many skills i do possess...taking pictures of myself as i have
a glue gun in one hand and a fake rose in the other, is not one
of them! But that process actually goes by fairly speedily!

and then i had this.

yes, i know..it's very wide and flat and completely lacking in
the realism that one naturally expects from a rose made of book
pages! ;}

here's another tip...use vintage paper...but not really vintage paper!
2 decades old...three tops! because when i was attempting to curl
my edges to make them oh-so-lifelike...all i really got was a lot of
rippytear! just a tad annoying!

even in its flat and hibiscus-like state, i still think it's pretty cool
looking! an entire bouquet would be fab...but i get tired just
thinking about it! maybe if i make one a month...then next summer
i will have some nice pictures for you...deal? ;}

i guess i will need to invest in some more book pages too...
or find a new obsession!

What's Pink & White...And Summery All Over?

Well, holy cats! I cannot see any more! I must now have eyes akin to
Mr. Magoo's! My "light, bright, airy, summery" mosaic...when
enlarged...looks muddy and ickitty!
ACK!
Sorry about that...it looked ok before I jumbo sized it...

Happy Weekend! Happy Almost-End-Of-Summer! Now, I know

of a schvitz here in Cali!
Hair...unintentionally fluffy
makeup...sliding
struggling to remain "powder fresh"!
TMI? Again, sorry. I am blind AND whiny!
And I will suck it right up and be praying for all you who
lie in IRENE'S path! Please head to high ground and be safe!!!!
You know the whole nation is praying for you!!!!
Please "check-in" and let us know you're ok!!!

Leftovers, Scraps & Nonsense...

i had this great idea...a brainstorm as it were...but my dumb and
lame printer ran out of ink. of course, that is actually my fault
as my printer cannot replace its own cartridges...so much for
the 21st century!

so, i got to thinking...sheesh! if i didn't print up so many things and
then merely use of smidge of them...i might still have some dadblame
ink left!

and that's when it happened...i got all "green" and birkenstocky {but
always with shaved armpits! i do have my limits! ;} and decided there
must be something i can make from all those srcaps on my floor...
{you think i jest...they really are on my floor...one day i'll show you a
picture, but i'll warn you first so you can administer your Xanax drip! ;}

and as you see..i made itty bitty widdle butterflies...
with tiny seashell tummies...
just what this world needs!

and attached them to clothes pins for pinning...

and peat post 'cuz i'm potty! {once again, using the British definition here! ;}

{how do we feel about the starfish "lashed" to the pot?
seemed like a good idea...bit then it kinda seemed like
something the Spartans would have done to Starfishicus
Maximus...creepy or cutie...you decide! ;}

AND WHILE YOUR WHEELS ARE SPINNING OVER THAT ONE...

SUMMERY GIVE AWAY !!! Just click HERE to check it out!!

Butterflies Are Free...

so, in my usual wanderings i happened upon this
butterfly wreath...
very cute with all those little butterflies made of
beautiful calligraphy and and vintage ads!
but $25?
nope...not going to spend $25 on something that i'm
not quite sure i will adore...
but i had a plan!
{lazy girls always have a plan! usually it involves
lying on the couch...but what do you think they are
doing whilst lying on said couch...planning! The
nuances of this will all be explained in chapter 371 of
The Lazy Girl's Guide To Crafting Crafting From Your Couch
entitled Planning A Plan...While Prone.}

scary, i know. but even though i have a Michael's gift card
i couldn't just run over there and buy a wreath...my roots are
gnarly and i really feel like i need a tummy tuck...so leaving
the house was out of the question! i lopped these off another
wreath...a wreath that every time i look at it i think,
'why are all those freaky little things sticking out all over??!!'

those "freaky little things" became my wreath!
straightened them a little, glued them end to end...
voila!
a n0-makeup-necessary-embarrassment-free-wreath!
is there a better kind? i think not!

now for the butterflies...
like many of you, i am certain, i don't have a ready
collection of fabulous vintage parchment butterflies
of various shapes and sizes...i know...how weird is that?

easily solved! "google" butterfly pattern!
no, i am not just a hat rack, my friends!
i laid the paper right on my screen and ever so
lightly traced...ever, ever so!

next stop, of course, a visit to The Graphics Fairy ...the "go to" headquarters for all your image needs!
and i found some doozies!

then i began to cut out my patterns...
after i had done a couple i had a "u-duh!" moment...
WHY am i cutting out this little wing only to
retrace it on my cool Spencerian script...then
cut it out again??? did i fall on my head?
this project was already nearing my ultimate
lazy girl activity threshold...my brow was near
glistening...i knew i was truly on the verge of
**GASP**exertion! ewwwwwwwwwwwwww!

necessity is the mother of invention...
i am the mother of all laziness!
and if i can knock a step or two of any project
{like, say, only applying mascara to the outer
corners of my eyes to appear well rested...
ok, ok, to appear alive!} i surely will!
so, i went back an traced the butterfly patterns
DIRECTLY on the backs of my already printed
images...my laptop screen is a pretty kickin'
lightboard and makes tracing cinchy as pie!
although, i'm pretty sure it's not recommended by
the manufacturer...am i correct, Mr. Gates? ;}
i only traced one wing since i knew i could just
fold the paper in half then cut once to get a whole
butterfly...ahhhhhhh, can you feel it? the harmonic
convergence of lazy and smart!

and...after all the falderal! i had these...not bad, eh?

next step, glue gun...and since this is a family friendly
blog...i'll leave that part out! much potty mouth and
gnashing of teeth ensued! i'll NEVER be able to use one
without touching that hot, hot glue!

the original wreath had butterflies with reddish-national
geographic-realistic looking bodies...ACK! i prefer my
bugs to have a more Disney-esqe look!

so, i used wine corks.
hmmm...come to think of it...not so Disney, eh? ;}
{although, who among you has not benefited from
a niiiiiice BIG snoot-full of Merlot after a LONG-HOT-
SHOES-MELTED-TO-THE-ASPHALT-WAITING-IN-
LINE-FOR-SPACE-MOUNTAIN-SUMMER day at
Disneyland??!! ;}

and...
the finished product.
might be lacking a bit of the polish that the original has...

but it does have the lazy girl panache!

and lest we forget...free! ;}
