Hyacinth Bucket...

Well, it looks like a plastic paint can to me...
but ORIENTAL TRADING CO ...from whence I procured it, {yes, whence!}insists on calling it a BUCKET .

Well, whatever the heck it is, in my world...for today...it is a luminaria!
{that's a light you put in your yard...usually a paper bag & candle...yes,
we like to live dangerously out here in the West...
sorry, I went all bi-lingual on you! ;}

Sister Bee is particularly obsessed with the luminaria...
luminarias?...
luminariaum?
Whatever...if she is having an soire...ooops, I mean, fiesta...there will be
luminaria to greet her guests...

Now, I am a wimp...paper, fire, Santa Ana winds...
well, I'll just say it...
I get afeared! {ever seen a palm tree explode into a million sparklers? :0 }

So, I am thinking that it's time for Bee to put away those votive candles &
that long lighter...and go with the "faux"!

So, I added sand to this bucket {the sand is actually there to keep it
"weighted"} and then I thought, why not just go "winter coastal" all the
way!

Shells, starfish...and with the "faux" votive {aka candle aka tea light...we
always say votive...probably due to the years of Catholic school}...nothing
burns or even gets mildly toasty...which is nice for those starfish!

{this formerly live starfish was not so fortunate! Sorry... I had this picture so
I had to use it...how many posts call for "starfish carnage"...exactly! ;}

But I do realize that not everyone yens for the beachy side of life...
So, in two shakes of a coyote's tail...it's a luminaria fit for any
totally Norwegian clam bake! Or even Icelandic! Brrrrrrrrrr, Iceland
{nothing says "cold" like Iceland, eh? ;}

And speaking of "flakes"...SNOWFLAKES!
Ok, sure, they're made of paper...but they are the ONLY kind of snowflakes
we will ever see around these parts!
Desperate snow bunnies call for desperate measures!

Easy, safe, multi-festive luminaria...
you may not see them at your Thanksgiving celebration...
but we will!

  2. Okay-I am laughing my butt off at your post..I love those little buckets. I just ordered some crap...er nice stuff..from Oriental Trading Company too. Oh and here's a little factoid for ya...did you know that Iceland is all green and lush and that they named it Iceland to keep the Undesireables out? Yes...indeedy...and..did you know that Greenland is all snowy and cold and icy and was named Greenland to encourage all the Desireables to come and cleave? Yep...and that's about all I know tonight- Hugs- Diana

  15. I love Hyacinth Bucket, and I love your bucket luminaria. Quite a lovely idea that I will have to duplicate here in Florida. I love doing luminaria - I've used paper bags and worry about those just like you. I switched to mason jars, which are lovely, but the bucket is much better & prettier. Blessings & shalom,
    Gail

  16. What lovely ideas!

    But I must say that your title reminds me of a British comedy called 'Keeping Up Appearances' with a character whose name (in her world) is Hyacinth Bouquet, although it's spelled Bucket!!

  18. Oh, I love your luminaries and I want some too. I live in the woods and it's beautiful here in PA in the autumn with all the colors. But somehow I must have been misplaced, I love sea shells and sand and I'm going to order some buckets (the handle qualifies the trem bucket) today. Thanks for sharing.

    Yes, you made a beautiful luminaria. Is that how you spell it? If not, remember I graduated in the top twenty of my class. (There were 21 of us).
